summer in the city

It is now officially summer, and boy-oh boy- has the weather been reminding us how HOT and sticky Manhattan can get. The soaring temperatures this week have had me longing for breeze summer dresses--I've been searching for some I can wear to work and out on the weekends. Here are a few options I've found... and all for under $50!

Pair any of them with a cardigan and they're office approved... summer perfection. :)

What Home Means to Me

So excited to be a part Victoria of sfgirlbybay and pinterest's pin-it-forward blogging spectacular! Check out the details, and all the other lovely participants, here>

The idea was to create a "pin-board" using the really amazing new site- pintrest - about "what home means to me" check mine out here>

I have two homes- one in bustling, beautiful Manhattan- and one tucked away on magical Michigan lake. To me home is a balance of these two very different worlds, a place where I can live in one and dream of another... and clearly have enough fabulous shoes for both.

And make sure to visit Vintage Ginger Peaches tomorrow!

Buy, Buy Bank Account

Dear Savings Account,
It was so nice to have you. But I have just learned that Madewell has opened an online store, and I fear we will not be together much longer. It's been fun.

less than a week....

My best friend, Meghan, is getting married-- ON SUNDAY. And I finally have my bridesmaid ensemble completed. Well- almost. I JUST found the shoes (yesterday, yikes) and they haven't arrived yet. But (knock-on-wood) they are perfect.

{dress and sash: J. Crew; shoes: Nina via postcards and pretties; nail polish: Essie- mademoiselle and mod squad}

I think magical is the only word to describe it.

the whitest sneakers award

This week in TV character makeovers, I bring you Pam Beesly, from the hit NBC show, "The Office".

Pam Beesly was a challenge. I wanted to keep the essence that makes Pam "Pam", but make her stylish, as well. And Pam is the opposite of stylish. Pam's looks are boring attempts at professional office wear. With a TJMaxx flair...

{images courtesy of NBC}

So, onto the challenge. How do I bring out the office professional/secretary look, without losing her famous "white keds"?

Readers, I bring you Pam "Office chic"... and a little funky.

{shirt: gap, sweater: Yuki**, skirt: balenciaga, bag: bayswater, necklace: fredflare}

Maybe with this stylish getup, it wouldn't have taken Pam three seasons to summon the courage to speak her true feelings :). I feel like I should do a "Lost" makeover for next week... in honor of the show's weekend series finale. Who should it be? Kate, Claire, or Sun? (Very few female characters on that show...)

a strange affinity for sweaters with animals on them

Today I bring you a new segment-- dress like your favorite TV show character-- only modernized and non-embarrassing. This combines two of my great loves: indulgent television shows and fashion.

The obvious character to attack first is a personal obsession of mine. Rachel Berry, from the hit Fox television show, "Glee". Now if you haven't heard of Rachel Berry, played by broadway starlet Lea Michele, that's one thing. But if you haven't at least heard of "Glee", pull your head out of the ground and Hulu it immediately.

Rachel's fashion choices have been described many times, but can basically be broken down into several descriptive phrases/words:

So without further ado, I give you "Rachel Berry Chic". AKA a Rachel outfit, minus the granny/toddler overdone quality.

{dress: delias, shoes: sam edelman sweater: miss selfridge bag: marc by marc jacobs
belt: topshop, necklace: juicy couture, earrings: marc jacobs}

And with that, Rachel is hip! Finally, Santana and Brittany will stop picking on her and drawing on her yearbook photos... as if!

What TV character do you want to see styled next?
