floor-plans

it's taken a while for the re-dec project to get up to speed--but we're starting to look pretty good. this is the new floor plan:
louis is not to scale...
the big idea is to create 2 new spaces- the work space and the TV/living space. We've drawn inspiration from Ikea:

ikea living room

we're pretty excited about the EXPEDIT shelf/desk combo...we may have been thinking about it for a while... we also have a plan to move all of our books out into the living room bookshelves-now we have them all in our rooms-the idea is that having books in the living room will make us look more interesting--who wouldn't be impressed that we own the full Harry Potter Series and Twilight Saga...hmmm?

meals made fun!

today in my search for meal planning inspiration, i stumbled upon the cutest meal plan design! It's made purposefully without days, so that meals can be changed around. check out my version below:

enough is enough

my trip to DC last weekend has inspired me. everyone has such cute apartments. i want mine to be cute too. i seem to be very good finding pictures of cute rooms. but not so good at making my own cute. i am determined to pull it off. here is my current inspiration:

via {vainbuthonest}

i really love frame collages like this one. especially the miss matched frame colors and sizes--with a collection of fun prints and a few new pieces of furniture  i could really transform the living room:

living room style 1
{1. desk: crate&barrel, 2. vintage map: ebay (currently debating how much i'm willing to pay...) 3. storage bench: target, 4. rattan chair: ikea, 5. this little dot poster: allposters, 6. sofa bed: ikea}

the color scheme: Preppy Green, Sun Safari, Cool Sausalito (all dutch-boy paints).

the goal: create a modern room that reflects my laid-back personality and west-coast roots, but is stylish enough for a new yorker... i'm open to suggestions :)

city girl...

country dreams...

as much as i love city life, and my modern manhattan apartment, i sometimes miss cozy quilts and cottage porches. don't you just want to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea?

...with this sweet room. feels like the blue print for a patch work quilt, don't you think? oh,  and i'm a sucker for sail boat pictures...

built-in-bookshelves

i've always had a thing for built in bookshelves. i think if stems from my childhood love of  beauty and the beast. here are some rooms that i especially love:

built in bookshelves1. Michael Bargo Apartment, 2. jonathan adler2, 3. gasl_window_treatments_10, 4. gasl_bookcases_22, 5. gasl_bookcases_01, 6. gasl_bookcases_02, 7. gasl_bookcases_16, 8. gasl_bookcases_23, 9. gasl_bookcases_06

or maybe they are dreamy because you would need oh so many books to fill them up. :)

YES!

found this in a decor8 post about setting up your home office :) we could totally pull it off in our apt. Duel desks! So cute. However- that would double the expense, hmmm. I'll put up some "before" shots soon, so you all can see what we're working with...

feeling floral

Our living room/work room (to be) is currently very drab. Lots of beige and white, I really want to get some colors in there and recently I have been a huge fan of floral prints. The challenge is keeping a modern feel to the room--I don't want it to feel like Grandma's Country Cottage. It is a New York City Apartment- how can we make floras reflect that?

Some inspiration:
