Feb 14th...again

It’s Valentine’s Day once again—sometimes I wish the dreaded Saint would take a year off, one year! that’s all I ask—at least this winter I have a few distractions, in the shape of Fashion Week and the Olympics. Yet somehow, between Vancouver’s ski jumpers and twit-pic updates from Bryant Park, sappy jewelry commercials and cheesy romantic comedies find a way to remind me I’m once again alone on this the most romantic day of the year.

Cupcakes seem the obvious cure, so I trudge out into the snow in my slippers—unwashed hair pulled up in a messy bun.

"Happy Valentine’s Day," the cashier smiles as he rings up my supplies, "haven’t seen very many flowers this year," I look at him puzzled, he doesn’t sell flowers… "I expected to see girls with flowers everywhere today. But nothing! Where are all the guys buying flowers?"

"Oh that I knew," I laugh as he loads my brownie mix and six pack of bud-light into a paper bag.

I suppose it’s fine that the guys-who-buy-flowers are missing from my life (an apparently the lives of most on 181st St…Kelsey excluded PS) because I have cupcakes to bake—and small fluffy dogs to groom… and an evening of pairs figure skating to immerse myself in, which actually makes this one of the better Sunday nights of the year. If only if weren’t for St. Valentine and his silly holiday I would quite enjoy being single….

dreamy stripes and flowers

I've been noticing a trend for spring-- and I love it-- stripes paired with floral prints. Sweet, yet spunky.

Darn you Punxsutawney Phil for predicting 6 more weeks of winter-- it's so much more fun to get dressed in the spring.

rabbit, rabbit....

Our Grandmother says that if the first thing you say on the first of every month is "rabbit, rabbit" and you'll have good luck that month. Kelsey and I find it hard to remember.
But Today I did.
Today I also got pick to serve on a Grand Jury for the rest of this month. I could be upset and grumpy about it--but I'm choosing not to be. I said "Rabbit, Rabbit!" I'm supposed to have good luck all month-- something good is going to come of this.

I'm trusting you rabbits. Don't let me down.

PS:(GUESS who is in the training video we watched to learn about Grand Jury Duty. SAM WATERSTON. I died of joy. I think juror number 9 (I'm #10... ) was amused by my excitement... but whatever. How good is that? High five Jury video makers. Job well done.)
