NYFW - Variations on a Theme

So, OK - I'm playing a little catch up here, it seems I'm still stuck in New York even though Fashion has moved on to London, Milan and is now arriving in Paris. But hey, let's talk NYFW and the parade of primary colors that made their way down the runways...

I promise to move on the other parts of the world soon. ;)

Fall Wardrobe Refresh

It is OFFICIALLY Fall now. This means a few things.
#1 - Cooler weather (right? RIGHT?)
#2 - Post-Season baseball (of course, for me and Kelsey that means going to see Moneyball and crying...)
#3 - Time for a wardrobe refresh!! Just add a few key pieces to get your closet ready for the new season... here's what I'm coveting for fall...

2nd Row: H&M: Vest and Blouse; Bright Pencil Skirt (for color-blocking, you know!); Black Cropped Slacks
4th Row: Red Blazer (or maybe hot pink instead?); Duffle Cape; Boots (Loeffler Randall - I'm in love with these. For real.) Glitter Heels.

What's on your fall shopping list?

Time Turner

I'm not sure if Stacey Bendet's S/S 12 collection for Alice + Olivia belongs in the 40s the 50s or the 60s.... and for some reason, I don't really care.Whichever decade we're in - it's fabulous.

A Color Story

One thing I love about fall - the colors! Growing up in California I never really got to experience fall fully. But in New York? Wow. Plus - on top of all that natural color - add the bring red color trend (as seen full force at the Emmy's) of the fashion world and you get a very VERY colorful season...

A Red Carpet Wish List

It's Emmy night!! And that means a night full of Red Carpet wonder! (who will wear what has always excited me more than who will win what - that's normal, right?) And with the show falling so soon after the Spring collections were presented at NYFW I might not have to wait very long to see my favorite gowns walk the carpet.

I think we'll see lots of shimmer at this year's show - and a lot of gowns in classic black & white,  some in yellows and greens and a few dramatic reds. Here are (just a few of) my favorite gowns from the Spring 2012 runways - and the small screen stars who might rock the looks.

Simple, stunning, sophisticated. These gowns - by Ralph Lauren and Zac Posen evoke silhouettes of the 20's and 40's and images of classic Hollywood beauties. Who might rock this look?
The Office star Jenna Fischer and Glee's Diana Agron are perfect candidates for the high-glam style.

The emerald hue is not a newcomer to the runway or the Red Carpet, but Zac Posen (yes! more Posen!) gave us a few gorgeous interpretations of the shade, ranging from a deep green that recalls visions of the Emerald City to a soft, slightly minty, ethereal gown. Who might rock this look?
I can see Glee star Jayma Mays in the deep emerald shade, and Mad Men's Elizabeth Moss would look heavenly in the lighter color.

I don't think anyone would argue the statement that there will be plenty of sequins and glitter on the carpet tonight. In fact - I probably could have done a whole post of just sequined gowns. Some how I managed to narrow it down to these 2 - by Jenny Packham and Naeem Khan -  that mix glitter and fiery red for a dramatic effect. Who might rock this look?
Glee's Heather Morris would look stunning in the Jenny Packham number, while Christina Hendricks of Mad Men would seriously hit it our of the park in the Naeem Khan.

Of course, you can't have an awards show without a few ball gowns. So who brought major drama to the Spring Runways? No surprise here - Oscar de la Renta, Monique Lhuillier and Jason Wu showed a few of my favorite high-drama gowns. Who might rock the look?
Lea Michelle has never been on to shy away from drama (or Oscar de la Renta for that matter) I can definitely see her showing up tonight in an ODLR ball gown tonight. And Modern Family's Julie Bowen would look amazing in the Lhuillier (although, I've heard rumors that she's wearing ODLR! Classic drama either way...)
And OKOK, I know January Jones had a baby like 3 days ago and probably won't be walking the carpet - but how good would she look in this Jason Wu? (I'd leave an infant at home for a chance to wear it! Maybe that just proves I'm not ready to be a mother...)

What do you want to see on the Red Carpet tonight?

It's NYFW oh boy oh boy oh boy!!

Ah, Fashion Week! That magical time when Lincoln Center fills up with all sorts of excitement, and I find myself in need of a full-blown wardrobe makeover. Here are just a few of my favorite collections that have shown so far this week... Spring is shaping up to be pretty in pink...!

Jenni Kayne KILLS it with this casual-chic collection. I pretty much adore everything about it - the navy, the chambray, the knits, the boxy blazers and silver pumps! West Coast style that's cool enough for NYC.
Oh.my.goodness. It's like we got lost in fairy land and I LOVE IT. Love. It. Super girly scalloped skits and soft pastels = bliss. Jill Stuart is making me want to frolic in a field of wildflowers and snuggle with puppies while giggling and talking about boys.
ADAM's Spring collection is pretty much everything Spring should be - effortless and fresh. Head-to-toe polka dots? Yes please.
Do you think it's possible for Jason Wu to get any more brilliant? Because I don't. How stunning is this mix of black, grey, blush and cobalt?  It's like perfection tied up with a black leather bow belt. And I can't wait to see those gowns on the red carpet.
I'm not sure if I love the giant rose print - it reminds me a little too much of the 90s somehow - but I do love the super saturated colors. And how fun is that zebra print dress?

Glimmer Glam

It's been pouring rain here in NYC. A rather gloomy start to September.
Hmmm.... how about a little gold and glitter to brighten things up?

So Long, Sweet Summer...

Well, you know what they say... all good things must come to an end. And so goes the summer... "Officially" at least, we do have a few weeks left according to the sun - but somehow once September starts summer seems long gone.

And with Fashion Week starting in just a few days, it seems as good a time as any to switch gears.
So long summer! Helllllloooo FALL! Let's talk color, coats and crisp cool days...

...and maybe a few things to crave: 1. Marni, 2. Perlota, 3. Alexander McQueen
